The liabilities were actually the deposits in the bank if someone knew how to read a bank balance sheet. The assets were the loans and cash including the $4B deposit which JPMC gave back.

So the thought that JPMC left the liabilities behind is ludicrous. By buying the bank from the FDIC they covered all deposits/liabilities over the $250K FDIC limit.

As far as your investment here that's your decision.
