ASC warns public of pump and dump investments

Securities - The Alberta Securities Commission is cautioning investors about a securities-promoting website that may be part of a "pump and dump" scheme, and one it thinks is tied to other sites whose principals are under a cease trade order.

In September, the ASC extended an interim cease trade order for Skymark Media Group, Momentum Consultants Inc. and nine employees while it looks at allegations they acted as advisers without being registered and that prohibited representations were made about two other companies.

Calgary-based Skymark is associated with the Skymark Research and Emerging Stock Report web-sites, it said.

The ASC is concerned that the principals behind the sites appear to be those behind libertyanalytics.com.

And the Liberty Analytics site appears to be a "pump and dump" site where stocks are promoted by individuals to drive up their price so that those individuals can sell their stock at increased prices, according to the ASC.
