The problem is of course that systematically clean cops only exist in Hollywood concoctions. In real life, "the cops on the beat" have been on the take ever since cops were introduced. Even the real life Wyatt Earp was corrupt.

I have no reason to suspect Warren herself as being corrupt, so far, however there is little doubt that her successors will be used as a device for depriving consumers of alternative choices. After all, isn't that was the government sanctioned credit rating agencies did? The three of them formed an oligopoly to mark up trash as AAA, while consumers were not allowed to seek rating advice from alternatives because government guns barred competition.

What's happening in Ireland is not the fault of free market. The free market discovered quite correctly that those loans were bad if not fraudulent to begin with. It's the government officials and regulators who are trying to transfer the losses from those who made the mistakes to the innocent taxpayers.
