It's called a fathometer. My parents
house is 200 feet from the water and the tide has been going in and out twice a day for the last 60 years by my personal knowlege. What happened before I was born and what happens after I'm dead is only speculation. My guess though is the tide will continue to go in and out twice a day. I haven't seen any rise in the depth of the water. The high tide mark is where it's always been in my lifetime.
