2nd method is using enzymes to enzymatically digest the compund and cut up the molecule into smaller portions so they can be analyzed
This sounds very similiar to Craig Venter when he broke down human DNA into smaller sections which were much more quickly analyzed and allowwed him to more quickly sequence the human genome. (An interesting concept that I had not recognized before.)
