That is clearly a false statement intended to deliberately mislead those that don't understand the real world of business and economics. The misrepresentation of the "core rate" of inflation, which excludes food and energy, is widely known and understood.
Here is yet another indicator of the underlying trend in prices... Corn is an ingredient in about 4000 items sold in grocery stores. So if you eat and drive, inflation is alive and well.
