My wife, Nancy, went out to run some errands this morning and left the door unlocked, as is not uncommon for us. While perusing the internet message boards, I heard the front door open and began talking to Nancy. Only Nancy wasn’t there.
So I went downstairs to see what was up and I smelled a thick smoke. I went into the basement to check the furnace, but nothing was amiss. Next I opened the front door to see if there was a fire outside.
I saw the neighbor with Alzheimer’s standing alone in the parking lot fumbling with his keys, smoking a cigar!
I showed him the way to his townhouse unit (three downs down from ours) and made sure he got inside. But, clearly, this can’t go on without courting disaster.
I was under the impression that, after the incident in October where he locked himself in his garage for several hours (#msg-4208906), this gentleman would not again be left unsupervised. My impression was obviously wrong.
