Personally, it's been my experience that buying is the easy(ier)part. It's the selling part (in 2007 unloading all his equities) which I believed you were questioning him on.

I know of many people who sold their entire 401(k)s etc., on the capitulation day back then....as opposed to the top in '07 (where the lucky or very smart sold).
