Slavery was a very minor issue during the civil war, ergo. It was not until late in the war that Lincoln issued the emancipation proclamation. The purpose of that was hopefully to cause the slaves to revolt, thus adding to the problems the Confederacy had. The primary reason for the war was in fact states rights. You can look it up.
