This engine will be very affordable in mass production. The $30K number is the military small production cost. In fact, when the Rand Cam is in full production for something like a hybrid car, it will probability cost less than a piston engine because it is simpler, smaller, lighter, and has fewer parts, moving and non-moving.

Note that almost every aspect of this engine is superior to a piston engine. Now, if it can only make the expensive and slow journey to commercialization.
