OT-Agreed, Lee, BUT to be proud of the "chop"??? UFB!

Nixon also objected to Rodriguez saying he was working out while the rest of the major leaguers were sleeping or taking their kids to school. On that subject, A-Rod admitted to making a mistake.

"I have been doing that for 11 years," he said. "I probably misspoke but I am proud of my workouts. In 11 years it's the first time I even talked about it. That will be the last, too."

As for Jose Canseco calling Rodriguez a "phony," A-Rod explained Canseco was so far out of his Inner Circle that it didn't bother him. Rodriguez refused to talk about his January meeting with George Steinbrenner in which The Boss implored him to be more of a leader. And he refused to fire back at Curt Schilling.

Commenting on the chop play against Bronson Arroyo in Game 6 of the ALCS, an action that started the avalanche of rips by Schilling on A-Rod, he defended it.

"I thought it was a brilliant play and we almost got away with it," said Rodriguez, who was called out for interference. "It took a lot of guts and it was the right call. To make that call in Yankee Stadium in that environment . . . I was stuck in the alley. There was nowhere to go. If that game is in June, probably not. But in Game 6 you do silly things. At the time I thought it was pretty smart."
