You saw the IR guys' professional response to a member of the public here:

This was likely someone else talking (emailing, tweeting, iChatting, whatever) to an analyst. If I had to guess, I'd say that someone else was Bill Marth; from what I've seen him say publicly, it would be right in character.

I agree it is lame that no analyst has asked this before. It was my recollection -- and Dew confirmed this -- that it had never been asked in a public forum, so Ms. Chen is in good company, hah. That's why I started this little campaign.

Whatever, I don't find this as odd as you do. Can't speak for anyone else, of course.
