Spain's budget deficit narrowed 42% in the eight months leading to August, thanks to spending cuts and a July tax increase. The deficit of €34.85B was 3.3% of GDP; the central government accounts for less than a third of spending in Spain. The country has approved one of its most austere budgets in decades.
