RNAi for AMD:
Alnylam vs Acuity vs Sirna
All three companies are using RNAi to impede VEGF, but there are key differences.
Acuity is using naked (unmodified) RNAi. Sirna is using modified RNAi, but is targeting only VEGFR-1 rather than all VEGF receptors. ALNY is also using modified RNAi and is targeting all three VEGF receptors.
Which of the above is the best approach? I don’t know, but only ALNY has found a deep-pocketed partner (MRK) to help fund the program.
