The sentence I was referring to in the patent :

"The peaks identified in Table II and IV are derived from SAX-HPLC, the peaks identified in Table III are derived from CTA-SAX-HPLC. The structures are also determined using SAX-HPLC, and, when necessary, by other analytical methods, e.g., using CE on a sample digested with heparinase I, II and III, 2-0 sulfatase and .DELTA..sup.4,5 glycuronidase, MALDI-MS and NMR."

We're definitely talking about enzymatic cleavage in this instance. I'm sure Momenta uses both chemical and enzymatic cleavage.

I'm not sure how you've heard Momenta describe these enyzmes in the past, but in their other patents they describe them as "degrading enzymes." The bolded part identifies what I assume is a proprietary degrading enzyme.
