<OT>I thought they were the most fun fish in the world to catch, but the first time I got hold of a 2½ pound small mouth after I moved to East Tennessee, I found its equal.

Ah yes, the frantic micropterus dolomieu....

I've caught hundreds of them back North in Door County, Wi.
I once caught an eight pounder in the Tennessee side of Dale Hollow Reservoir...... yikes! That was a battle royal.

Kind of like fighting a big carp that had taken crystal meth...

I agree that pound for pound, very few, if any, freshwater fish can equal it's frantic fighting style, but the largemouth variety grows to almost twice the size of the smallmouth and is much better looking to boot.
