Typically when they change over, there is a change in the Id No and symbol of the old stock to represent a change in stock taking place. You may trade old shares under the Old Stock Id until the actual change over. At the point, the new stock begins trading, all stock in Old Stock Id are then transferred to new Stock Id No and change in values is represented in the transfer transaction.

Have had this happen 5 times in stock I own/owned.
