Cor,

Hard to decide where to begin in responding to your post.

First, the point of my post had nothing to do with SMIC, help from the USA, or China's currency policy. But, since you raise those issues, let me respond.

Rest assured, SMIC will get the funds to buy their new chip-making equipment with or without help from the USA and China will dominate the commodity DRAM market in the not-too-distant future, gar-ohn-teed. You can't stop market forces.

But overcapacity doesn't hurt Rambus as badly as infringement hurts Rambus. Overcapacity will cause consolidation among manufacturers, necessarily. As long as Ms. Holt sells licenses to the surviving MMs and Chinese foundaries, Rambus will be just fine.

As to your comment China will end up owning the USA by way of investment and their refusal to float their currency against the dollar, they will have to stand in line behind Japan and England.

Frankly, the richest nations in the global economy can't afford to not help China, among other poor countries. Not to get into a debate, but Islamic extremist terrorism is more about economics and less about religion. Strip away the mask of jihad and it is a war between The Haves and The Have Nots. Now, wrap your head around the numbers of Have Nots in China, India, and Africa

Redistributing wealth and raising the standard of living around the world may be painful for the US and other G7 members, but it surely beats the alternative, Cor.

So, I say give SMIC the loan. Let Micron figure out another way to make a buck.

Just my opinion.

Threejack

P.S. Think it is hilarious Mr. Parker trots out that tired old shell of a Fab in Lehi as an example of Micron's discipline in not contributing to DRAM overcapacity. The place has a purpose after all ; )
