Kendle International Inc.’s second-quarter net income dropped 42 percent to $1.9 million from $3.2 million, a result of lower revenue, investments in its sales operation and restructuring expenses.
On a per-share basis, Kendle earned 12 cents during the second quarter, compared to 21 cents per share in the same quarter a year ago. That was better than the consensus analyst estimate of 9 cents, according to Thomson Reuters.
Total sales dropped 22 percent to $111.3 million from $142.2 million in last year’s second quarter.
In a statement, CEO Candace Kendle said the company saw the level of contract cancellations moderate during the quarter and saw the fourth consecutive quarter of growth in its sales pipeline. New business awards increased 48 percent to $131.5 million compared to the first quarter of 2010.
