The move outof stocks is a reaction to the rampant shorting that assisted the destruction of stock prices.

Sure longs sold, their confidence was broken by the constant diatribe against stock prices and long term investment. The average American doesn't sell and panic under normal circumstance but this time has been very different, the daily drip of insidous negativity finally took its toll.
