For traditional generics, pharmacies impose a much higher mark-up on generics than on branded drugs. However, insofar as generic Lovenox is sui generis, I don’t have a good feel for what kind of mark-up pharmacies are using or plan to use. Perhaps we should ask our resident pharmacist, rph_in_wi, to chime in.
Another point to bear in mind in that Lovenox comes in seven varieties of prefilled syringes. My impression was that the 80mg syringe, which is graduated and offers the flexibility to use 30mg, 40mg, or 60mg per day*, is the most popular Lovenox SKU, and hence 80mg is the SKU I used in the discussion of gross margin in #msg-52936910.
If anyone has info from IMS or another source regarding the share of the Lovenox market by SKU, please post!
