Muslims need a place to pray. That's their religious life. They don't drive to church on Sunday; they go to the local Mosque or in this case a community center with a prayer space and pray... 5 times a day and it's sort of congregation-based. They can't walk 12 blocks at lunchtime to do this. There are several hundred mosques on the island of Manhatten. Prior to 9/11/01 the local one was in the World Trade Center itself.... Besides the many Muslim first responders killed that day, many were killed there in the mosque.

It's not about religion. America was attacked by a guerilla force opposed to our empire. It was exceedingly cruel to be sure, but anyone who's ever seen America wage war, or read about it, knows goddamed well that 3000 civilians is pretty much a walk in the park. Hap knows it. He's just lying.

But 3000 of our civilians... ours... That makes it different. Ask Hap. Gott Mit Uns eh?
