That's where technical analysis comes in handy IMHO, and is partly the reason for using TA with big float/big volume stocks: changes in technical/momentum indicators cannot be the result of retail buying and selling to any significant extent, but instead must reflect professional trading activity predominantly. When big players are taking or leaving big positions, it is not subtle. I know Reid doesn't consider volume to be very important, but I think it can often be significant. FWIW I take careful note of volume, and changes in same, as well as volume/breadth indicators. Gaps on huge volume are not caused by retail buying and selling, but rather professional. They should be heeded.
