02/04 Our Optimism Index is still pushing out ALERTS!
telling us things are good and all good things come
to an end. The bond index hit a new high (again),
confirmed by strength in TLT. Even McClellan was
quite enthusiastic. The dollar index had a strong
day, XGLD fell again and XOI was up a little more.

02/03 Our Optimism Index turned down but is still in
ALERT territory. The dollar index was up, XGLD fell
a bunch, and XOI was strong again.

02/02 Optimism Index is still rambunctious. The bond
index continues to inch higher. The dollar index
was steady, XGLD was up a little and XOI was strong
again. It's up about 10% since a little sell-off
at the first the year.

02/01 Our Optimism Index has gotten too exuberant,
suggesting a top in 5 days or so (is this an abnormal
reaction caused by the unexpectedness and severity of
January's fall? I don't know.) The dollar index
trickled down a few cents, XGLD fell and XOI is
working on a moon-shot.

01/31 The Optimism Index was downright enthusiastic
today. We had a healthy swing in our COMPOSITE
reading. Other indicators suggest there is greater
strength in NYSE issues than NASD. The bond index
continues to make new highs. Even McClellan stopped
falling and edged up a little. The dollar index
moved up a few pennies, XGLD fell more than $4.00
and XOI was up almost $10.00.

01/28 An unexpected (by me) setback. Is it temporary?
Our Optimism Index thinks so. The corporate bond
index closed at a new high. The dollar index was
steady, XGLD was steady and XOI was down a little.
