OT: burn2learn: The cookie question is as old as the hills.
Alpha cookie: You hold this one in your hand. Alphas have very little penetrating ability, and will not penetrate the dead epithelial layer of skin cells. No dose.
Beta cookie: This one goes in the pocket. Betas can penetrate a good bit more than alphas but generally do not penetrate thick clothing and never penetrate the skin. Though the inside layer of the pocket will probably no completely shield the betas (depending on the energy) the dose will only be to the skin and will be minimal.
Gamma cookie: You eat this one. Since gammas are highly penetrating, you are going to get the same dose whenther it comes from the inside or the outside. Since you must eat one, this isthe best one.
Neutron cookie. Throw this one away. Neutrons have anywhere from the same to a much higher quality factor than gammas, depending on the degree of thermalization and they are highly penetrating.
A collection of nuclear types is not good, I've ran across several in last few years including a very high up process developer at PTD. A group of engineers from one dead industry moving to a dying US semiconductor industry....sitings of your guys is like see the grim reaper.
You would probably be surprised how alive the nuclear industry actually is.
