Is this the first sign of an AMD flash only company? It was speculated here once that if significant losses from AMD's CPU business continued, that one possible solution was for them to become a flash only company, and drop the CPU business. Notice that they were able to negotiate a 60% stake in this deal.

NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- Fujitsu Ltd (J.FUT or 6702) and Advanced Micro devices Inc. (NYSE:AMD - News) are in talks to integrate their flash-memory operations in a move that would create the world's largest flash-memory group, The Financial Times reported on its Web site Monday.
In terms of the plan, AMD would take control of a new joint-venture company, with sales of about $3 billion, that would design, manufacture and package flash-memory chips, the report said.

AMD would take a 60% stake and Fujitsu a 40% stake, according to the report. The partners aim to establish the joint venture in January.

The new company would be an independent entity that AMD would consolidate and Fujitsu wouldn't, The Financial Times reported.
