The fact that the Apple CEO has health issues is no secret to anyone. And the constant grind of promoting/defending the iPhone 4 can’t be helping. Now, there’s news of a new senior VP of operations possibly being groomed to take COO Tim Cook’s place — which is wagging tongues that Cook might ascend to replace Steve Jobs.
This month, the company promoted Jeff Williams — Cook’s right hand man — from vice president of operations to senior veep. Williams has commanded the iPhone’s global operations since its inception, so if Cook ascends to take Jobs’ place, it would make sense to groom him to take Cook’s spot.
It’s all speculation for now. But what do you think would happen if Jobs were to step down? Would consumers care, or do you think that a mass exodus of hero worshippers could hit the company hard? Would you care?
