Ariad went down for a number of reasons;

1.) the shorts know how to adjust their trading positions to take advantage of information lags in the news cycle. It doesn't look like they are actively covering yet.

2.) the overall market is in a downturn which in turn adds weakness to Ariad because it is in a number of indexes that are under selling pressure.

3.) their are cleaver traders who take their profits as Ariad cycles on its way up and they go back in around this level.

4.) and so on...
