1:53 PM Retailers responded to soft demand with aggressive discounting and promotions in June, but sales gains may have been tempered by lower margins. Overall, results were mixed as Limited (LTD +1.3%), Macy's (M +2%), JC Penney (JCP +6.2%) and Nordstrom (JWN -2.2%) reported better-than-expected numbers, but Kohl's (KSS -3%), Gap (GPS -8.6%) and Target (TGT -1.6%) came up short.
