they are NOT bringing the quality down. They need to remove the Octane (C8) range fraction and keep the cetane (C16) range fraction.

Octane has a lower flash point and inhibits knocking. Internal combustion needs low flash point, spark ingition, and not to explode on the compression stroke.

Cetane needs to not evaporate and release explosive fumes, explode at a critical compression, and flow through the injectors at a set rate determined by nozzle size and viscosity.

Gasoline is under 1 cSt. Water is 1 cSt. Deisel is 2-3 cSt. Near deisel is slighly volatile, thinned deisel. On the other hand, furnace oil and deisel have the same sale value. The price difference is all taxes. Furnaces can run on biofuel, straight #2, or any other blend, just by changing the injectors to the furnace.
