Unfortunately as a nation we haven't voluntarily saved anything. I believe it's probably a moot point/issue already. As the financial disaster unfolds, I doubt there will be any consensus on how to go forward and solve problems. On the contrary I expect more arguing and finger pointing.
Good example; in NH governor Lynch is still trying to use the state run medical malpractice funds to fill our budget deficit. The NH Supreme Court has already ruled on the issue (against him) and still he persists.
I think he's desperate at this point. I also suspect that in virtually every other state the same crazy schemes are winding there way through the legislatures....
