On the other hand, had BP made better choices...they would have probably fixed the broken pipe right about now (or perhaps prevented the explosion from occurring altogether)!
BP's incompetence underscores a larger problem facing many companies for quite some time, that it's far more profitable to "squeeze more out of less". Near back-to-back productivity gains for the last 10 years ago demonstrates the disturbing trend away from innovation to "cost savings"....
For a good example of what I'm talking about, take a GOOD look at what happened to Firestone several years ago.
