About 2 1/2 years ago Fleckenstein who is famous for his nightly rap ups of the market known as The Rap, was writing about various schemes people were coming up with to make a million dollars. So I did up an essay and emailed it to him. Ah, the good old days.

The Price of a Million Dollars

You were writing about who wants to be a millionaire. The guy wanted to know if he could take $5,000 and in 5.5 years turn it into a million. And somebody had a scheme that used $25,000 and took 3.7 years. Boy, that a bunch of rip-offs. Why are they taking so long? Hell, just the other week you could have taken $5,000 and in one week, that's ONE WEEK, made a million dollars. You even tipped everybody off about the stock. Of course it was a day late. Remember OTC America. Went from $.50 to $9. Couple of days later it kissed $100. $5,000 to one million, one week. Of course you wouldn't have been able to cash out, but at least on paper you would have briefly been a millionaire.

Closed yesterday at $45, would have still had almost half a million. Half a million, million, what's the difference. What's even more sickening is you could have in the last year bought it for one penny, ONE %?$# PENNY. frown Enough to make a grown man cry. And in the ten days before it took off like a rocket the price of the stock was $.50. That's it, $.50, except for one day when it briefly went from $.50 to 1 1/8 and right back to $.50. And in fact on five of those ten days, it didn't trade at all. I almost, just as a lark bought a 1,000 shares the next day after you mentioned it for $5 1/2, but couldn't find anything out about the company. In a few days I could have pocketed over $50 grand. Not bad for a few days "work" and reading the Rap. Hell, I would have flown out to see you just so I could treat you to lunch. You got any more picks? That Canyon Resources something or other, no go. It's been over a couple of weeks and it hasn't made it to $100 yet. Come to think of it, I don't think it has made it to $.75 yet. But if you've got any more good ones, lunch is on me.

So the real question is NOT can you make a million dollars. That is a given. And it is NOT how many years, it only takes ONE. The real question is HOW MUCH? How much? About six months ago I was looking in the paper at the stock quotes. One was in bold since it was up over 5% and it also had happened to hit an all time high of $95. I glanced at the 52 week hi/low and was f-f-f-f-fi-fi-five dollars, no way. It's a misprint. It can't be right. It was right - Sandisk. I did some quick math, and about fell out of the chair when I realized I could have made a half a million dollars. Than I really got depressed when it occurred to me that for a little over $50,000 and I could have gotten a million dollars. I could have scraped up that much. So the cost to buy a million dollars with in the last year for that stock was about $50,000.

So another way to look at XYZ was up a gazillion percent in the last year would be how much was a million dollars going for. Now if we don't count OTC America, one penny to $100 or a million dollars for $100, I've seen "real" companies where you could have gotten a million dollars for under $10,000. Now the next time they're having a fire sale on a million dollars, I wish somebody would tell me, I would like to get one or two. So it isn't can you make a million dollars. And it is not how many years does it take.

In today's bubbleonian mania market the real question is, How much are they selling a million dollars for today, and how long do I have to wait before I get it.

Remember, you got any more good picks, lunch is on me.
