That's the one thing that could tip the scales towards x86... A comprehensive push into smartphones by MS, with a worthy OS and including subsidies.

It's already far too late for that. x86 will not give any serious advantage. Intel will have to compete straight up against ARM in Perf/W.

Apple is very much giving off the world domination vibe MS did in the late 80s. I think it's still cheap and has a long way yet to ride.
