What do you think "port" means? (Hint: It's not something you do with an existing binary.)

I know that. I never said you could run the same binaries across operating systems. Port means some amount of work plus a recompile, but the way I read "port of choice" is that Intel is making a business case for ISVs to port x86 from Windows to Android and Meego with less work and more access to end-users. The "less work" part is achieved through the tool-set that Intel delivers, and the "more access" part comes from having an app store that offers a digital distribution model for software to all devices running Atom.

Obviously, each ISV will make their own choice to port to Android/Meego, but by lowering the barriers, Intel is following a strategy of creating the conditions such that ISVs will make the choice to build their software ports to x86 on Android/Meego.

Right, because Linux has no drivers... LOL. And you think Windows drivers are going to just plug right into a Linux OS? Please.

Honestly, FPG, these are brain-dead responses. See the above. Intel expects ISVs to do the work to port their apps, but since ISVs are doing that work anyways for ARM, Intel is making the argument that they do the work to port software from Windows to Atom + Android/Meego, for the reasons described above.

What are the tools exactly? Where specifically are Intel's tools that allow app developers to run Windows apps on Meego, for instance?

The same tools that Intel has proven to deliver to the market: compilers, libraries, debuggers, etc. The ISV still has to use these tools to port their apps. There's no magic software that adds a wrapper that allows a Windows app to run seamlessly on a different OS (and if that's what you think I was arguing, then no). But what Intel can offer is to supplement or enhance the tools that Windows developers are already using to make a port to Atom on Android and Meego easier, as well as offer them the digital distribution model to increase their access to end-users, which would increase the sales of these application ports, and therefore make the ISVs even more motivated to do the work.
