In order to produce such a meltdown, you need fusion. In order to have fusion, you need extreme temperatures. That won't happen if that crap gets stored in Greenland. However, if such waste is stored improperly then the material WOULD contaminate the ecosystem---at least locally.

Having said that, it's VERY unlikely any of that crap will make it to Greenland--let alone to Thule.
