you are maybe not familiar with the complexity of offshore exploration & production in deep water.

On a larger time bar, say 25 years, you would see blow outs during drilling for whatever reason occurred more often although not with such dramatic result. This is an industry of great accomplishment and it is just unfortunate this 'problem' has some political load on its shoulder.

If we were not producing offshore in deep water, oil price would be probably 10-fold, yes really.
