Is there a need for regulation at all or gov intervention at all? If so, why?

ans: yes

reason: because the unscrupulous exist in all areas of life....

therefore: "regulation" should be divided into two areas, IMO....

1) consumer protection against intentional fraud (which included products as well as scams)

2) the separation or prohibition of corporate funding and contributions to politicians/political parties/government officials
