What you’re missing is this: short-term safety at high doses does not imply long-term safety at low doses.

The Squalamine trials in cancer treated patients for a short duration and then followed the patients (without additional treatment) for an extended duration. Hence, these cancer trials did not provide definitive data on safety for the kind of long-term, repeated treatment required in AMD.
