On a side note

My personal opinion.

War is Hell!

The effort to sanitize the process of conquering one nation by another by confining the hostilities to each other's combat forces is a travesty. As a veteran and now a civilian, my thoughts are pretty simple. If you want to own and control me and my home, it is going to cost you dearly. I will most likely not survive but a bunch of your people are going to die before I do.

There are millions just like me in America. If you want our country, and you are not a banker (sic), you are going to have to kill us all.

That being said, the sanitizing of a war is just ridiculous. If an army is supported by factories, then the factories are valid targets. I agree with the thoughts at the top about Dresden and about Tokyo. Factories can be rebuilt. Bombing the factories, the workers, the workers' families, their homes, and their transportation infrastructure makes it near impossible for logistical support to continue. With no logistical support, the soldiers have to lay down their arms, get out of their tanks and planes, and walk home.

Quick, efficient. War over.

It was the basis for the entire Cold War and the philosophy of mutual assured destruction. That alone kept the Cold War cold.
