I have no idea what "took a risk disconnecting the shut off value while they shut down" means"; the explosion took place not during a shutdown but during a normal operational process of establishing a well, encountering a situation that was quite abnormal: otherwise, we'd have much more explosions among the 30,000+ offshore oil wells. No, they should not be able to risk that; they should just pull oil out of their rear ends. Wonder why we are dependent on import oil . . . and dependent on imports whenever an industry produces pollution (which is to say an industry producing much of anything physical) . . . I suppose exporting those jobs that involve "risks" are not a bad thing after all.
