you have a link to anything factual about that 3 month claim? it could keep flowing for 3 days, three years, or... sheesh

oil on water? you can google historical stuff yourself, but to save you some time,
Before DDT, malaria was successfully eradicated or controlled also in several tropical areas by removing or poisoning the breeding grounds of the mosquitoes or the aquatic habitats of the larva stages, for example by filling or applying oil to places with standing water.

I am not trying to belittle the impact of the oil slick (which in fact is light sweet crude, highly volatile, so much will evaporate and not create as many tar substances as many spills), i was only commenting on the thing in the stupid article that claimed it was one of the worst ecological disasters on record. That is sensationalism. It is bad, it is unnecessary, but it is not even in the category of production of dioxins, for example, that still harm the environment 50 years after their introduction. Cooler heads would prevent over-reaction, but now we have the politicians on board, so that is unlikely. Over-reacting is absurd, too. I hope the worst case scenarios will not come to pass, and i am confident they won't.
