Military sales return Oshkosh to 2Q profit

OSHKOSH, Wis. (AP) -- Specialty vehicle maker Oshkosh Corp. turned a profit of $292.6 million in the fiscal second quarter, reversing a year-ago loss and topping Wall Street expectations.

The company attributed the improvement to surging sales of military vehicles in its defense segment, its biggest business unit, which saw revenue nearly quadruple to $2.27 billion.

"We expect fiscal 2010 to be a record year for Oshkosh in terms of sales and earnings, driven by strength in our defense segment," CEO and Chairman Robert G. Bohn said in a statement.
