FONAR Sells 29th Stand-Up MRI to Denver Customer; First Sale in the Rocky Mountain Region

MELVILLE, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 5, 2002--FONAR Corporation (NASDAQ-FONR), The MRI Specialist(TM), announced today that it sold a Stand-Up MRI(TM) to Colorado Stand-Up MRI, Inc. The scanner will be installed in the Denver, Colorado metro area, making it the first Stand-Up MRI(TM) in the Rocky Mountain region of the country, and the 29th sale for the Company.

The Stand-Up MRI(TM) is the only whole-body MRI in the industry that can scan patients standing, bending or sitting, as well as in the usual horizontal positions. All other whole-body MRIs can only scan patients lying in a horizontal position. The ability to scan patients in upright postures allows human anatomy and function to be observed under normal weight-bearing conditions.

Weight-bearing MRI provides information that no other MRI can - information that can dramatically affect the outcome of a patient's diagnosis and treatment.

The Stand-Up MRI(TM) is also an extraordinarily patient-friendly scanner. There is nothing in front of the patient's faces or over their heads that might induce claustrophobic reactions. Patients find that sitting for their scans is to be very comfortable. If they wish to, they can watch a television installed on the wall of the scanner room.
