IIRC it is the first time the Xeon die is truely different (uncore) than a fused off desktop die.

No. Xeon DP (1s/2s) is almost always desktop silicon but
Xeon MP (4s) is almost always a unique big cache die.

This started with the PIII Coppermine based Cascades
which had a 2 MB L2 vs 256 KB for the client version.
