Hi pgs,

>>Will "non-dangerous" levels of warming occur prior to dangerous levels?

>>Or will dangerous levels emerge without any preceding trend of prior warming?

I am not able to answer those.

Plimer's thesis is that the earth has gone through wide swings of temperature, cold with growing glaciers and warm with receding glaciers and even an total absence of polar ice caps and that these swings were not driven by CO2 but rather by changes in the oceans. If I recall correctly, he claims that for 80% of the life of the planet there was no polar ice caps. He argues that the earth thrives during warm periods and that life (human and many animals) is more difficult during the cold times.

You may recall my problem with global warming is:

- we do not understand all the processes (including feed back loops) that lead to temperature change;
- without that understanding, we cannot create models/simulations that can meaningfully predict the future;
- that we do not really know whether warmer is better or worse (Plimer supports warmer);
- that it is folly with such limitations and at enormous cost to attempt to change the course of the earths temperature.

Respectfully,

Jim
