Funny you ask that someone else asked me the same think a few weeks back. Let me preface this by saying I am not a tax professional nor am I familiar with tax law from state to state. Residing in Texas I have no state taxes to consider.
My understanding is there is nor pre-requisite for paying quarterly but it will remove the need form reserving funds for lump some at the end of the year and takes the need for discipline out of your hands. One think to consider is if you pay quarterly a an owe because you made money what a hppens (heaven forbid) is you are at a loss and it becomes a right off. My personal preference is still to pay come year end when there is final profit minus what if any losses during the year.
Again please do not take this as fact just my humble opinion and consult your local tax professional.
Blah blah blah.
