bigworld: my father died from sepsis earlier this year after a hospital stay of 2 and a half weeks. They put him on antibiotics the night before he died. A screwup? Probably. Or were they trying to save money on an 84 year old? (Perhaps too cynical). Meanwhile they were looking for cancer. From what you say though, even with the drugs, he might have died.
