I am currently paying nearly 1800 a month for my medical insurance. I am tying to find out if I can cancel it and pay the penalty. Then if someone in my family gets sick, I can buy the insurance because I will not be denied because of the pre existing condition.
This is exactly what smart people in Massachusetts have been doing since RomneyCare went into effect a few years ago.
The non-compliance penalty in the US healthcare law is too small too be an adequate deterrent, IMO. Astute citizens who don’t have good tax-exempt coverage through their employer will be inclined to game the system just as people have been doing in Massachusetts. This will cause insurance premiums for everyone else to rise.
