I respectfully think you are 180 degrees off-base. Rather than being a bailout of the health-insurance industry, the new healthcare law will prove to be the industry’s death knell, IMO.
Insofar as the new law bans risk underwriting, it effectively precludes meaningful competition between insurance companies. If the insurance companies can no longer engage in bona fide competition for client business, what is the benefit to society of the companies’ continued existence? Might as well replace them all with a government plan.
